Cuidiu means caring support in Irish. We are a voluntary parent-to-parent support group and our mission of ‘information, education and support’ encourages a confident, positive approach to parenting, empowering parents to make informed choices about issues from infancy right up to adolescence.
Cuidiu Cork is a branch of the Irish Childbirth Trust, Cuidiu.
What do we do? Here is a summary.
Coffee mornings are held weekly in different areas of Cork in members homes. They are a chance for mums to enjoy a cup of tea while the children play and make friends. It is a great way to meet other mums and to socialise. All babies and children under school age are welcome.
The Lavanagh Centre, Blackrock, is a fantastic place for mums and dads to take their children on Saturday mornings. The pool is warm like a bath and there is a shallow section where toddlers can walk and play or parents can sit with their babies. All children from birth to early school age are welcome. Membership is required for insurance purposes.
Cuidiu-a-do
This group focuses on families with a child/children in the 7-12 age group. They organise talks relevant to those parents, e.g. choosing secondary schools, and they host events for the parents and children together e.g. pumpkin carving, ice-skating, cinema, icing Christmas cakes.
Social Events
On a regular basis we plan social events and activities. Some are for adults such as a table quiz, Christmas dinner or bowling. Others are for families such as the Christmas party, and a visit to Leahy’s farm. In the summer picnics are arranged in some of the parks and open spaces around Cork.
Support and education: this is one of Cuidiú most important functions.
